Everything Old

Everything old is new again as they say, and why not? After all, it is much easier to adjust an old idea for a new market than it is to come up with a whole new concept and it seems this is just what Rover has done with an idea which didn’t really take off in 2003 but is thought to have more success five years on.

Back in 2003 Rover released a 75, long wheelbase. While there were few on the roads back then and few chauffeurs realised their value, a Chinese company, Nanjing MG has announced the MG7 which is based on the 75 and has a comfortable 200 mm of extra legroom in the back.

The 2003 Rover 75 long wheelbase was the perfect limousine for the UK hire companies. The passengers are likely to have favoured a ride in a home grown limo, not to mention it was very fuel efficient and very comfortable to ride in. It was also an affordable limousine and while it had all of the luxury, style and accessories you would expect from a modern limousine, it would only set the limo hire company back £28,000.

The new saloon is manufactured in state of the art facilities in Nanjing, but still maintains the character of the British luxury car in design and quality. The limousines introduced into the Chinese market are three 1.8 litre variations of the MG7 and the flagship model, the MG7L which is the model with the extra legroom.

The MG7 has a turbocharged engine which is fast and powerful enough to get the passengers where they need to be, without tempting the chauffeur into a drag race. The Chinese manufacturers have also excelled themselves in ensuring the new model not only has all of the style and quality the Rover fans are used to, but is also new and improved where possible.

While the MG7s are popular in China where many people can afford their own chauffeur and limousine, they are not expected to arrive back in the UK until the end of 2008. However, they are still likely to be great value with the MG7L pricing in at just under £30,000.
